Day 5

– Abide in the word / First Pillar of Discipleship

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.”

John 8:31 NKJV

Reflect: Disciples are learners. One of the marks of a disciple, or follower, of Christ, is our drive to abide in the word. One definition of abiding simply means “to make our home with”. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

Do we cherish the word? Do we run to it for nourishment for our souls? Do we allow the word to shape the way we think and interact with people? Our hunger and desire to allow the word of God to shape every aspect of our lives is the mark of a disciple.

Action: Set aside time to reflect on the word on a continual basis. Find someone around you that is passionate about the word and invite them to help hold you accountable in this area.
