Day 8

– Forsake All / Fourth Pillar of Discipleship

“So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”

Luke 14:33 (NKJV)

Reflect: The cost for following Christ is everything. We see this portrayed in Mark 10:17-27 which is the story of the rich young ruler being asked by Jesus to sell all he possesses and follow Him. As disciples, we are marked by a passion to put God first, not just in some areas but all areas. We know that surrender is a daily decision but we have also learned to trust in the one who created us and ultimately has our best interest in mind. Jesus warned us as well that the cost of discipleship would look like carrying our own cross, but he promised that if we were willing to lay down our lives in return, we would find it.

Action: Study Mark 10:17-27. What does forsaking all mean to you? Do you find this thought intimidating or is the invitation to forsake all exciting? Take time to write down ways God is pushing you to deeper levels of commitment with Him.
